This is not the site you are looking for - Gnome

In order to allow Star Wars: Imperial Winter (formerly known as Star Wars: Spring) to grow, we've opened up a new site at ImperialWinter.com complete with our own new forums. We ask that any SW:IW fans please update their bookmarks and use the new site and forums from now on.

Star Wars: Total Annihilation will remain here on PlanetAnnihilation, but be aware that development of SWTA has halted.

That's no moon... It's a Design Competition! - Warlord Zsinj

In fixing up Star Wars Spring for our next release, we aren't just making things all new and shiny (see newspost below); we're also rebalancing things to update and improve the game, and to be more appropriate for the Spring engine. One important goal here is to make the sides more assymetrical, so that you will have a different experience playing each side.

One important element in this is our rethinking of the Imperial Commander. Instead of being a mobile TMB, as it is currently, we will be replacing it with a new immobile Imperial Headquarters.

This unit has no real canon reference in any of the movies or Expanded Universe. It is such an important building that we've decided to open up the design process to you in order to get the best design possible for this unit, which is effectively most important unit in the entire Imperial arsenal.

So, for your chance to get your idea, be it a model, or illustration (we're after ideas, not completed units, we will do the hard stuff!) into a game which was seen by over 8,000 people last release, please enter our Design Competition, which is being run at these major communities:

Spring Art & Modelling Forum

Scifi-Meshes

Jedi Council Fan Art Forum

ModDB.com

All the information you need can be accessed through any of those threads. Entries close on Monday, 30th of April.

Good luck,

And May the Force be with you!

Actually Artoo has been known to make mistakes... from time to time... - Gnome

While news might have been quiet lately, we certainly haven't been sitting around idle.

Our team has blossomed to 6 active members, so things are really rolling along at a fast pace.

One of the reasons for the lengthy time since our last release is that we have decided to meticulously go over the balance of Star Wars Spring, and turn it into something that is better suited to the Spring engine; rather then a carry over from the old Total Annihilation engine. Expect balance, FX and graphics to blow you away for our next release.

The second main reason for the lack of release is the enormous amount of work facing us; having to redo over 100 or so models, texture them, and then reanimate them. If you think you have an ability which you can share with us (Modelling, texturing, animation, sound editing, etc - in particularly need talented texture artists), please contact us...

At our brand new forums!

That's right, SWS has made it's triumphant return to our old home, TAUniverse! Our website will remain hosted here, at Planetannihilation. Feel free to drop into our new forum if you have any questions, suggestions, or just want to drop in and say hi!

To whet your appetites, here are some taster images of what you'll have in our next release:

Long ago in a newspost far, far away - Gnome

This stupid news system just ate my post, so I'm just going to skim the points I made:

Star Wars: Spring summary

  • We have a new professional level skinner, Vassago, doing excellent work on the new models.
  • A gallery is available at our moddb profile.
  • We are now collaborating with the BFME2 Star Wars mod, Battle for the Galaxy, by trading content. They are currently focused on the prequel trilogy, and we are primarily focused on the original trilogy, so by sharing resources we may both complete our visions of the perfect Star Wars RTS more quickly.
  • New laser effects.
  • Increased fighter effectiveness against air targets.
  • Increased infantry effectiveness against ground targets.
  • Shields.
  • The following units currently have new models:
Empire, finished: AT-AA, AT-MD, AT-ST, Turbolaser turret, TIE Fighter, TIE Interceptor, TIE Drone, TIE Defender, TIE Vanguard
Empire, unfinished:Ion Turret, TIE Avenger, TIE Phantom, TIE Bomber, Scimitar Bomber, Stormtroopers, Mobile Artillery
Rebellion, finished: B-Wing, E-Wing, T-Wing, X-Wing, Z-95 Headhunter
Rebellion, unfinished: Spotter tower, Shield generator, Infantry
We are currently finishing roughly 3-4 models per week at the current rate, and as the entire team gets more accustomed to the work flow, we expect that number to increase slightly. SW: Spring currently weighs in at 135 units, however, once the infantry are done we may consider a new release.

Star Wars: TA summary
Work has ground to a halt for SW: TA. We are looking at releasing the work we have completed soon so that we may completely focus on Spring. The Jedi and Sith are done, as well as several third-tier auxillary buildings. In summary, just because this page seems dead, don't take it as such; always remember to drop by our IRC Channel or moddb profile first.

Attack of the Publications - Gnome

Just a short tidbit today, Star Wars: Spring has been featured in PC Zone magazine. While it's not the first time SWTA has been in publication, it's the first time since I joined the team, so I'm quite proud :)

You can check out the scanned article here: Clicky clicky

Just remember, you actually don't have to be a computer programmer to play ;)

In-Depth Manual for Star Wars Spring Released - Warlord Zsinj

Fresh from our release of Star Wars Spring 1.0 we have been working hard to bring you a comprehensive guide to installing and playing this new modification. Some SWTA veterans have struggled to grapple with the Spring Engine, and others new to SWTA have found it difficult to deal with the very different unit selection and gameplay style of SWTA.

Therefore we are glad to bring you The Completed Star Wars Spring Manual.
The SWS Manual Contains information regarding:
- The Current State of the SWTA team, and our future goals
- Detailed Installation Instructions
- Step-by-Step Single Player and Multiplayer instructions
- An In-Depth Unit Guide
- Strategy & Tactics Section
- Frequently Asked Questions

This manual is Version 1.0, in line with our latest SWS release. It will be updated as we bring out new SWS packs.

Hopefully this Manual will answer any questions you may have regarding SWS, and be a useful battlefield handbook to carry you safely through many battles.

May The Force Be With You,
Warlord Zsinj
